Renewable courses

If you wanted to find a potentially ‘recession proof’ skill, this would have to be it. Let’s look at some facts:

By the end of this decade, 15% of all energy consumed in the UK will have to come from renewable sources. An estimated 1million training places* will be required to meet this demand – currently there are fewer than 30,000 people working in ‘Green Industries’. This is roughly 1/10th of the number in Germany, for example. And bear in mind there are nearly 30m households in the UK which represents huge potential.

It is true that we are lagging seriously behind in this vitally important area, consider these words from Chris Huhne, the Secretary for Energy and Climate Change: “In Britain, in this third industrial revolution, we will build a new economy of low carbon and clean growth.” “Like the other industrial revolutions, the low carbon revolution will be driven by entrepreneurs, the private sector, local communities, individuals and businesses, scientists and engineers, not government.”

“We need to apply these principles to the challenge of changing fundamentally the way we both produce and consume energy. We need to address the state of our buildings. We have some of the oldest housing stock in Europe. Our Green Deal will transform finance for improving the energy efficiency of Britain’s homes.”

What this means is that there is a nationwide ‘green skills’ shortage across the UK and will be for several years to come in areas such as:

We can train and help you achieve the practical skills and certificates you’ll need to work legally and safely and guide you towards a new career or even self-employment. Our training programmes are specially designed to help you qualify around existing work/home commitments and you don’t need any prior knowledge to enrol. If ever you wanted to identify a ‘recession proof’ career, this would have to be at the top of your list.

It doesn’t matter whether or not you have some existing experience. The courses are designed in such a way that even if you’ve never so much as changed a fuse or a washer, you will be able to manage the course from first principles, with ease. Remember many of our students are adult career changers, and arrive from careers as diverse as nursing, long distance lorry driving and office work. Provided you are in reasonable health and can pass the assessment tests (e.g. for colour blindness) then you are eligible.

Successful completion of the whole course will see you gain no fewer than eleven valuable qualifications. With the requisite work experience, your studies will lead you toward the industry’s leading certifications. As a trained Renewable Energy Engineer you could choose to work for a contractor or even go self-employed and build up your own business – the opportunities are considerable.

The learning programme is self-paced so designed to fit around your experience and learning speed. It is structured to fit around your existing commitments of work and family life too. Many of our students study in the evenings or at weekends, so that they can carry on earning whilst acquiring new skills and until they have gained the confidence to earn a living from them.

Working from home at your own pace, you will first acquire the underpinning knowledge you’ll need to master your trade. Then at key points in that process, you will join us for practical training in our state of the art training centres, usually, in blocks of one or two weeks at a time (so you may need to fit this in to your holiday schedule). Here you benefit from tutors who are ‘timed served’ professionals with many years’ experience ‘on the tools’.

The centres are thought to be the very best equipped in the country and here you will put into practice the theory you have learned and be taught all you need to pass your assessments. Our first time pass rate is in excess of 97%.

We offer the only course available in the UK where you can hone your skills and solve ‘real world’ installation problems in an award winning, safe PC-based virtual reality environment, to practise again and again, until you get it right.

Bear in mind though, our students can expect to spend more time in the workshop than students studying on college apprenticeships. And by using our three-way blended learning method, using video, TV and computer screens, it’s much easier to remember what you’ve seen and practiced.
